Schoolyard Sneeze

The Sneeze is a half blog, half zine and is a pretty good read if you're done reading my blog. But I would like to draw your attention to a particular segment on this half blog, half zine called Global Schoolyard Rhyme Project. The blogmaster Steve has asked readers to send in any "great obnoxious kid rhyme from outside the U.S." along with their English translation. And boy are there some funny ones. I think the best part is that when the rhyme is lost in translation, the meaninglessness of the taunts become glaringly apparent...which makes them even funnier! Here are a couple of my favorites.

From Italy:

Pepsi Cola
Coca Cola

English translation:

Pepsi Cola

Boner

Go fuck yourself

From South Africa:

Ek sien 'n skilpad op die pad

Ek tel hom op, hy maak my nat

Ek sit hom neer, hy doen dit weer

Die donner!

English translation:

I see a tortoise on the path

I pick him up, he pees on me

I put him down, he does it again

Damn it!
