The Evolution of the Shield

Apparently Brian Philbin thought it necessary to research and write an in depth history of the evolution of Superman's shield. "Why?" you ask? "No idea," I answer. I wonder if this was the subject of his thesis for his graduate degree in Historic Superhero Anthropology.

I didn't even understand it was an "S" until I much later... probably the age of 12 or so :)
The modern logo is more abstract even than the second one shown here. But then again, the symbol was from his mother planet, and we can be lucky aliens had the almost same alphabet...
